A Simple 5 Minute Detox

Lifestyle / Wellness

Wait – a 5 minute detox? Seriously?

Yes! The easiest and quickest way to detox is to start with your largest organ…your skin.

How?

Dry Brushing.

Dry brushing is literally brushing your skin. It removes dead skin cells, stimulates your lymphatic system, strengthens your immune system, reduces cellulite, keeps your skin soft and can be an amazing emotional release.

Your lymphatic system is responsible for close to 15% of your body’s circulation, transporting white blood cells that help the body get rid of toxins. Dry brushing keeps your lymphatic system active and stimulates drainage that helps your body naturally detox.

This is an easy practice to incorporate into your daily routine. It is best to do it before your morning shower or bath. Remember to be gentle with your skin as it may be sensitive – a light touch is all your need.

Try to be truly present when dry brushing and let yourself release any tension, anger, fear or negative emotions. Concentrate on letting these out of your mind and body and be brushed away with your skin cells.

What do you use to Dry Brush?

Use a natural bristle body brush, gentle loofah or exfoliating gloves. I personally like to use the exfoliating gloves as they are easy to use and I can simply toss them in the washing machine when they get dirty.

How do I Dry Brush?

  • Always brush towards your heart (with the flow of the lymphatic fluid).
  • Begin at the soles of your feet, and then move up your legs, brushing in circular motions.
  • Brush your chest and shoulders towards your heart in long strokes. Then start at the fingers, your palms, up your forearms to your shoulders and towards your heart.
  • It is suggested you move in a circular motion counterclockwise on your stomach to respect the direction of digestion and encourage detoxification.
  • Follow with a nice warm shower or bath...

Dry brushing is a wonderful way to take care of yourself. Work on making it a regular part of your morning routine - it is quick and easy and will truly help you feel your best!
