I prefer food over supplements.
Food offers the complete mineral, vitamin or antioxidant and is digested and absorbed well by the body.
Some vitamins are difficult to get from food - vitamin D is a tough one, as is b12 (if you don't eat meat). Those are two supplements I personally take everyday.
However I try to get everything else I can from food.
One of the most important nutrients we need is omega 3 fatty acids. It is necessary for brain health, cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing. Many people will take a supplement, however I choose to simply eat 3 or 4 walnuts right after breakfast.
Have you ever noticed that a walnut looks a lot like your brain? Interesting, since it truly is a "brain" food - shown to improve mood and anxiety as well as support memory and thought processing. Walnuts are not only full of omega 3's they also contain protein, fibre, antioxidants and magnesium.
Get more in your day by eating a few as a supplement like I do, adding them to your oatmeal or salad or having some as an afternoon snack. You can also enjoy them in these delicious recipes:
I would love to hear from you! What is your favourite way to enjoy walnuts (or any nuts)? Let me know in the comments below...
