Turmeric Tea Two Ways

Beverages

I love curling up with a cozy cup of tea. Those who know me best would say I'm happiest when I have a warm tea in my hands!

I enjoy all different teas but lately I've been experimenting with turmeric tea - and totally loving it.

The health benefits of turmeric are incredible - from alzheimers prevention to helping DNA repair...it is an anti-inflamatory spice that is one of the healthiest foods on earth.

And the really great news is all you need is 1/4 of a teaspoon daily to benefit from all it has to offer. Easy right?

I do put turmeric in a few recipes - especially soups and sauces but drinking it as a tea or "milk" is an enjoyable way to get some in your diet every day. I like to have it after breakfast or right before bed. It is nice and warm and will definitely get your circulation going in chilly weather.

I've given two recipe options below. One is a tea that is made with water and ginger - very warming and you can drink it anytime. The other is a 'milk' - made with almond milk and sweetened with a hint of pure maple syrup. This one is a bit more filling and is perfect to fill an afternoon snack craving.

Try out one or both of these super healthy drinks today and let me know which one you love in the comments below.

Enjoy!

Tips & Nutrition

Both of these drinks contain a good amount of super healthy turmeric. I use the organic ground turmeric you can find in the spice isle at the grocery store - it is easy and quick to use. You can also use fresh turmeric which is available in the produce section and grate it.

If you are finding either of the drinks too strong you can reduce the turmeric to 1/2 or a 1/4 teaspoon and work up from there when you are more used to the taste.

You will want to have a spoon handy while drinking as a lot of the spices will end up at the bottom of your mug as time passes. Stir it up to get all the flavour and all the benefits!

Black pepper is included in both of these recipes becuase it helps with absorbtion of the turmeric.

Be careful! Turmeric can stain - especially on white - so be mindful of what pot, utensils and mug you are using.
