I love a good french fry...

I mean...who doesn't ;-)

These Crispy Oven Baked Fries do a great job satisfying my cravings and they are much healthier than a restaurant option which are usually deep fried. 

You can make this recipe with white potatoes or sweet potatoes. I personally  love the sweet potato version. Sweet potatoes are full of vitamin A, which is amazing for your skin, and have antioxidants to keep your immune system in good shape. 

This recipe is easy to make and is a great appetizer, snack or pairs beautifully with Black Bean Burgers.

  • 2 sweet potatoes or baking potatoes, scrubbed
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • fresh ground pepper and sea salt

Tips & Nutrition

You can add any seasoning you like when you are mixing the potatoes with the olive oil - paprika, turmeric, rosemary or a dash of cayenne pepper. Mix and match to your tastebuds! 

You can make this recipe for as many people as you like - estimate 1 potato per person.


Preheat the oven to 400 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cut the potatoes into 1/4" slices and then cut those slices into strips to make "fries”. Place them in a large bowl of water for 5 minutes and then drain the water. Dry the fries with a tea towel or paper towels.

In a large mixing bowl toss the fries with olive oil, garlic powder and lots of salt and pepper until they are well coated.

Arrange the fries in a single layer without overcrowding on the lined baking sheet and cook in the oven for 20 minutes. Flip them with a spatula and cook for about another 20 minutes. You will be able to tell when they are done because they will be a bit puffed up and golden brown. Please note sweet potato fries will cook quicker than regular potatoes – about 15 min per side.
