5 Foods for Glowing Gorgeous Skin

Is your skin feeling a little dull? Or maybe some annoying acne is showing up? Not to worry! You can easily change that up with a few tweaks or additions to your nutrition.

Your skin is your largest organ. Not only is it affected by outside elements but also greatly affected by what is going on inside. Like every other organ in your body it needs good nutrients, minerals and vitamins for optimal health.

Remember what you put in your body affects every cell, including the skin on your face so choose your food well and your body will thank you for it.

Here are the key foods for glowing, clear, radiant skin...

Staying hydrated is the best thing you can do for the health and clarity of your skin. Start your morning with a big glass of water before having anything else – this helps flush out toxins and refresh your skin after sleeping. Continue to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

TIP: Add fresh fruits or veggies to your water to give it a little flavour - who doesn't love a 'spa' cucumber lemon water! Caffeine free herbal tea like peppermint or ginger are just as hydrating as water if you're looking to change things up!

Leafy Greens

Dark, leafy greens like kale, spinach, arugula and swiss chard help naturally detox impurities from the body (including your skin) and promote healthy circulation for a radiant glow. Eating more fruits and vegetables is essential for healthy skin because they reduce inflammation and provide key nutrients and vitamins.

TIP: Change up the greens in your salad to get a wider variety of nutrients. Add greens to your smoothie, soups, pasta dishes or lightly sauté them with a dash of olive oil and salt and pepper. A couple recipes to try are my Fresh Green Smoothie or Vegan Kale Salad (my fav ;-)

A diet rich in antioxidants can help decrease mild to moderate acne and help with healthy cell development equalling more beautiful skin. Deep coloured berries are rich in antioxidants - think blueberries, blackberries, cherries and raspberries. Add them to your smoothie, sprinkle them on salads, oatmeal or simply snack on them as they are.

Healthy Fats

Eating more healthy fats found in nuts, seeds and avocados can help reduce inflammation and improve acne breakouts. When enjoyed with veggies, they also help you absorb more of the vitamins and nutrients. Sprinkle seeds like hemp, pumpkin or chia on your salad or oatmeal or add them to your smoothie.

TIP: snack on a handful of nuts like walnuts or almonds for energizing healthy fats plus antioxidants and Vitamin E for even more skin healing benefits. Keep them at your desk or in your car so you reach for them instead of a processed food which will have the opposite effect on your skin!

Bell Peppers

Bell peppers are rich in vitamin C - an essential vitamin for clear, healthy skin. Snack on them raw and cut up with your favourite hummus or chop it up in your salad.

Other great sources of vitamin C include mangos, broccoli, leafy greens and citrus fruit.
