These days we're bombarded with images of a 'perfect morning'.
We see people getting up at 4am or 5am, juicing their celery, running a half marathon, journalling 10 pages, meditating with a perfect array of candles, making green smoothies and frothy matcha lattes and fitting in a yoga class in the latest eco friendly, made from recycled plastic bottle leggings...all before 8 am!
Obviously this isn't reality...
1. There is no perfect.
2. It doesn't matter what other people are doing, the only thing that matters is that you're doing what works for YOU in YOUR life to feel your best.
Yes, how you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Incorporating a healthy morning routine will set you up for a successful, healthy day. But it has to work for you!
Today I'm sharing 3 realistic, quick habits you can easily do to start your day off right without setting your alarm for 4:30am.
As tempting as it is, hitting snooze actually makes you more tired. Those extra 9 minutes of dozing are fragmented sleep causing you to be more groggy. If you wake up at the first alarm you will have more energy, less brain fog and not be rushed for the rest of your morning. Set your alarm for exactly when you want to get up and keep that promise to yourself! I know its tough, but you can do it! And eventually it will simply become a habit.
When you are sleeping you become dehydrated (since you aren't drinking anything). When you're dehydrated you feel tired, low on energy, can get headaches and your brain won't feel sharp. Having a big glass of water first thing, before eating or drinking anything else hydrates you for energy as well as flushes your internal organs which have been natrually detoxing during sleep. Add a squeeze of lemon to help with your natural detox and get your digestion started!
If the first thing you look at when you wake up is social media or emails, you're letting someone else set the tone for your day and you're reacting to them. Instead, take a few moments before reaching for your phone to note 3 things you are grateful for. This sets a positive, proactive and happier tone to your day. When you feel good about your life and yourself, you will make healthier decisions throughout the day.
A great breakfast is also a KEY habit for a healthy morning so you feel energized, make healthier food decisions for the rest of the day, and are full so you don't reach for that energy zapping muffin at 10am...
